Bad Social Media Advice

There’s so much advice about social media, and sometimes, it’s not all good. If you ever hear someone saying you should do these things ⬇️ you can take it as BAD social media advice!
📱You need to be on all the socials - No, actually you don’t. Yes, this would mean you have a wider presence online, but if you can’t hold that platform down and commit, don’t join. You want to focus on platforms where your target audience are spending their time. It will be more beneficial, cost effective and time effective for you to spend all your efforts on platforms that make sense for your business, and where you’ll have direct access to potential customers.
❌ Post every single day, multiple times! - NOPE! Remember, quality over quantity. Posting a few times a week, and showing up more on stories throughout will probably work better for you than trying to post anything every single day. Everything you post should have a purpose and hold value. You also don’t want to annoy your audience and become spammy!
🤯 You don’t need a strategy - Well if you don’t have a strategy, how do you know what you want to achieve and how to do it? You need to be clear on goals and set realistic aims. You also need to analyse and adjust for improvement.
🙍🏽♀️Get an intern, no need for an expert!
In some cases this works and there are some amazing interns out there, but in most cases it doesn’t. Yes an intern can be creative, but they will lack the in-depth knowledge of strategy and analytics. Often enough, an intern will leave you for another opportunity, they won’t be sticking around for long...which puts your socials back to where you stared!
🤫 Keep your personality away from your brand. - If you don’t show your personality, what makes you different from the rest? What makes you stand out? You need to come across relatable, natural and humanise your content so you don’t come across like a robot.
🤦🏽♀️ Just focus on Facebook - Every now and then, target audiences on platforms tend to shift. Facebook was cool for millennials a few years ago, and now you see a shift to an older generation checking-in and sharing photos of their dinner. Adapt to the changes you see.
📥 Send an auto-DM to your new followers. NOPE! - It’s simply spammy, can come off as impersonal and can be a sour start to a new relationship!
⛔️Auto-post the same content across all platforms - Firstly, if you're spending time online, it’s annoying as a user to see the same post across three different channels. Secondly, you need to optimise your content for each platform. Dimensions are different, pictures will crop off and word counts will restrict your copy, along with all of this, each platform has it’s own rules and algorithm!
